NEWS AND NOTES
*As per the camp's suggestion all personal gear should be packed in a duffel bag. Since we are using Catalina Express to transport us to the island, plus a truck from Two Harbors to Camp, backpacks are NOT recommended. Attach a luggage tag to your duffel bag with your name, Troop 29, and the letters CCV (for Camp Cherry Valley) on it to assist in identifying your gear. The Camp also suggests tying a piece of red yarn or a red tag on your gear.
*I am personally suggesting each family wire tie their bag closed. Duffel bags have a funny way of opening at the wrong moment and just like an airline it is doubtful you would get all your stuff returned (not being biased or overly critical of Catalina Express, only stating a usual traveling fact).
*Full Scout Uniform, Class A uniform MUST be worn on the boat into Camp. You do not need to bring your Merit Badge sash. This is a camp rule and is NOT negotiable. Class A uniform will also be worn at Breakfast and Dinner (or you will not eat). These are camp rules and are nonnegotiable.
*Uniform of the day will be Troop T-shirt with shorts of your choice and white socks.
*Count on washing clothes at least twice during the week.
*The temperature ranges from the mid to low 70's during the day to the low 60's at night. A wide range of clothing is helpful, should it get cold or unusually rainy. Always dress using the layer system (ask if you don't know what this is).
*As always, it is very important you drink plenty of water. Water bottles are required, though the camp has placed many drinking fountains around the property. Soda does NOT replace water; rather it normally continues to dehydrate you.
*Any parents wishing to visit camp for the day will need to arrange their own transportation to the island. Catalina Express is the quickest way, and I think the only way. Once at Cherry Valley, you will need to check in with the Camp Office. Visitors wishing to eat at Camp must pay $5 per meal.
